How To Choose Locations for Engagement Photos

Discover How To Choose Locations for Engagement Photos with these helpful tips. From considering the vibe and season to looking for unique features and getting creative, these tips will help you select a location that reflects your personalities and love story. Make beautiful memories together while having fun during your engagement session.

Whether you’re a laid-back couple who enjoys spending time in the city or outdoor enthusiasts who crave adventure, selecting the right location for your engagement photos is crucial in creating the perfect ambiance and capturing beautiful memories.

Tip #1- The Vibe
What’s the vibe you’re envisioning for your Engagement Session? Are you the couple that spends Sundays in your sweats, grabbing coffee and exploring the city? Or are you adventure junkies who head straight for the great outdoors? Choosing your setting whether  urbanmountainfieldin-home (the options really are endless), will set the overall tone and feel for your session. Remember, do you! This is your story, not anyone else’s.

Tip #2 -Take Season into Account
Another crucial aspect to consider when selecting a location is the time of year. The season will greatly impact the lighting and overall look of your photos. If you’re planning a winter engagement session, keep in mind that the sun sets much earlier, whereas in the summer, you’ll have a longer window of time for your shoot. For the best lighting, I like to plan our sessions approximately 1-2 hours before sunset or opt for a sunrise session if you’re an early bird.

Tip #3 – Choose a Place with Personal Meaning
Incorporating places that have personal significance to you and your partner can add a meaningful touch to your engagement photos. It could be a favorite park, coffee shop, or even your own home. Think about the places that you both love or have always wanted to explore together.

Tip #4 – Consider the Logistics
When choosing a location for your engagement photos, it’s important to consider the logistics. Is the location easily accessible? Are there any permits required? Is it open to the public or do you need special permission? Make sure to do your research ahead of time so you can plan accordingly.

Tip #5 – Look for Unique Features
When I’m scouting for a new location, I like to look for unique features that will add interest to your photos. This could be a stunning view, colourful murals, unique architecture, or even a field of wildflowers. Think about what will make your photos stand out and incorporate those elements into your location.

Tip #6 – Think About Your Wardrobe
Your wardrobe can play a big role in the location you choose. For example, if you’re planning on wearing formal attire, a cityscape or urban setting might be the perfect backdrop. If you’re going for a more casual look, a nature setting like a park or beach could be a better fit. Think about the colours and styles you’ll be wearing and choose a location that complements them. Don’t know what to wear? Don’t worry! I have you covered. All couples who book me for an Engagement Session receive a Client Guide with a handful of helpful resources, including a Style Guide, to help you feel super prepared for our session together.

Tip #7 – Get Creative
Don’t be afraid to get creative with your location choices. Think outside the box and consider unconventional settings like a rooftop, abandoned building, or even a greenhouse. These unique locations can create a one-of-a-kind backdrop for your engagement photos.

By following these tips, you’ll be sure to choose a location that reflects your personalities and showcases your love story. Remember, the most important thing is to have fun and enjoy the experience of capturing this special moment in your lives!
