While I absolutely love finding the perfect locations for my couples for their engagement photos, it’s also super important to me that my clients are involved in this process. I want your engagement session to be yet another opportunity to make beautiful memories together while having a super fun time getting to know me better in preparation for the wedding day. Here are a few tips on How to Choose Locations for Engagement Photos.
Tip #1- The Vibe
What’s the vibe you want? Are you the couple that spends Sundays in your sweats, grabbing coffee and exploring the city? Or are you adventure junkies who head straight for the great outdoors? Choosing your setting whether urban, mountain, field, in-home (the options really are endless), will set the overall tone and feel for your session. Remember, do you! This is your story, not anyone else’s.
Tip #2- Consider the Season
The time of year will greatly impact how a location looks. Be mindful that if you want to have a winter engagement session, the sun sets around 4:30pm as opposed to summer, when the sun is setting around 9:30pm. I prefer to do sessions approximately 1-2 hours before sunset for optimal light or for you crazy morning people, I will also do sunrise sessions as that light can be incredibly dreamy. There just needs to be lots of coffee!
Tip #3- Choose a Place You Visit Often Or Have Wanted to Visit
Is there a special place that means something to the two of you? Do you have a favourite place you go to on weekends or perhaps there’s a place you haven’t been yet but have been wanting to explore? Incorporating your hobbies and interests into your engagement session will not only create beautiful candids, but will also make you both feel more comfortable.
Lastly, if you still can’t quite figure out what you might want, don’t worry…I invite you to look through my previous engagement sessions on the blog for inspiration, which is also a perfect opportunity to check out my 3 Reasons To Do An Engagement Session.
So what happens when you apply these tips for How To Choose Locations for Engagement Photos? You end up with this epic kind of engagement session. Amy and Andrew were beyond generous to invite my husband and I to their incredible recreational property in gorgeous Sundre, Alberta. They took us on an adventure in side by side’s around the property to some amazing views and we even saw wild horses! I am so grateful to these two, including their gorgeous girl Tilly, who gave us an experience I won’t soon forget. Does it get any better than this?
