Elevated Fairmont Palliser Wedding in Calgary
This Fairmont Palliser wedding in Calgary was one of those celebrations that reminds me exactly why I love what I do.
Years before her own wedding day, Taylor was a bridesmaid in one of my all-time favourite weddings. Courtney and Ryan’s unforgettable New Year’s Eve wedding remains a celebration I still think about often, so when Taylor reached out about photographing her own wedding, I was genuinely excited. Not only would I have the opportunity to reconnect with so many familiar faces, but I knew from our very first conversation that she had a clear vision for the experience she wanted to create.
Inspired by the glamour and romance of old Hollywood, Nick and Taylor planned a wedding that felt elevated, intentional, and incredibly welcoming. Every detail had been thoughtfully considered, from the ceremony and reception design to the flow of the day itself. While the Fairmont Palliser provided the perfect backdrop, what stood out most was the care that went into creating an unforgettable experience for their family and friends.
A Fairmont Palliser Wedding Inspired by Old Hollywood Glamour
The historic architecture and timeless character of the Fairmont Palliser made it the perfect setting for the couples vision. From the moment guests arrived, there was a feeling that this would be more than just a beautiful wedding. It was clear that every detail had been carefully curated to create a celebration that felt sophisticated, personal, and memorable.
The day began with a private first look in the Fairmont Palliser Oval Room. One of my favourite things about a first look is the opportunity it creates for couples to slow down and be present together before the excitement of the day takes over. With its elegant architectural details and intimate atmosphere, the Oval Room provided the perfect setting for Nick and Taylor to share a quiet moment together before welcoming their guests.
Following their first look, we explored several areas throughout the hotel for portraits. The seasonal décor throughout the Fairmont Palliser complemented the couples vision beautifully and created a timeless backdrop for some of my favourite images from the day.
Live Music and a Meaningful Ceremony at the Fairmont Palliser
As guests arrived for the ceremony, Uptown Strings filled the room with beautiful classical music, creating an atmosphere that felt both elegant and welcoming. There is something undeniably special about live classical music at a wedding. It immediately elevates the experience and creates a sense of anticipation for the celebration ahead.
Surrounded by their closest family and friends, Nick and Taylor exchanged vows in a ceremony that felt heartfelt and intentional. While only a smaller group attended the ceremony itself, it created a meaningful start to a much larger celebration that would continue throughout the evening.
A Pre-Cocktail Gathering in Hawthorn Dining Room
One of my favourite parts of the entire day happened immediately following the ceremony.
Instead of rushing guests from one event to the next, Nick and Taylor invited their ceremony guests to join them in Hawthorn Dining Room for cocktails before the larger reception began. It created a relaxed transition between the ceremony and evening celebrations, allowing everyone to settle in, reconnect, and simply enjoy being together.
As a Calgary wedding photographer, I often hear couples say they want more candid photographs. The reality is that candid moments require time and space to unfold naturally. This portion of the day created exactly that. Guests shared stories, enjoyed drinks, and spent meaningful time together while the excitement of the ceremony was still fresh.
Not only did it create a wonderful guest experience, but it also resulted in some of my favourite images from the entire wedding day. If there is one timeline element I wish more couples would consider, it is creating intentional space like this. The best candid photographs rarely happen because a photographer asks for them. They happen when people are comfortable, engaged, and given the opportunity to simply enjoy being together.
Working With the Fairmont Palliser Wedding Team
One of the reasons I genuinely enjoy photographing a Fairmont Palliser wedding has very little to do with the building itself.
While the hotel is certainly beautiful, what consistently stands out to me is the people behind the scenes. The events team at the Fairmont Palliser is exceptional. They care deeply about their couples, their guests, and the vendor teams working alongside them. That level of professionalism and collaboration creates an environment where everyone can do their best work, ultimately leading to a better experience for the couple.
As photographers, planners, florists, musicians, venue staff, and other vendors, we’re all working toward the same goal. When a venue values teamwork and communication the way the Fairmont Palliser does, it allows the entire day to unfold more smoothly and creates a better experience for everyone involved.
The Fairmont Palliser Room Reveal
One of the most memorable moments of the entire day happened before a single guest entered the reception.
After months of planning, countless decisions, and endless attention to detail, it was finally time for Nick and Taylor to see their reception space for the first time.
As the doors opened to the Fairmont Palliser Oak Room, Taylor’s reaction said everything.
Her jaw literally dropped.
Moments like this are one of the reasons I love photographing room reveals. Couples spend months working closely with their planner and vendor team, making decisions that often live only in mood boards, emails, and conversations. The room reveal is the moment all of that planning becomes real.
Working alongside Hannah and the team at More Events Co., every detail had been thoughtfully executed. The floral design, décor, lighting, and overall atmosphere came together beautifully, creating a space that felt elevated, welcoming, and perfectly reflective of Nick and Taylor’s vision. Seeing them experience the room for the first time was one of the most genuine and emotional moments of the entire day.
An Elevated Reception in the Fairmont Palliser Oak Room
As guests entered the Oak Room, the energy shifted from anticipation to celebration.
Family and friends gathered for an evening filled with heartfelt speeches, incredible food, laughter, and plenty of unforgettable moments. One of the most talked-about details of the evening was the couple’s espresso martini tower — a fun and memorable alternative to a traditional wedding cake that perfectly reflected the atmosphere they had created throughout the day.
What stood out most wasn’t any single detail, but how seamlessly the entire experience flowed from beginning to end. Every element felt intentional. Every space served a purpose. Every part of the day encouraged guests to be present and enjoy the celebration together.
By the time the evening came to a close and guests boarded a double-decker party bus to continue the celebrations, it was clear that Nick and Taylor had accomplished exactly what they set out to do: create an unforgettable experience for the people they love most.
Kind Words From the Couple
One of the greatest compliments I can receive as a Calgary wedding photographer is when a couple feels fully supported throughout the entire process.
After their wedding, the couple shared:
“The moment Sue arrived I knew we were in fantastic hands. She had pre-scouted so many location options in and around my venue so the day flowed so seamlessly with Sue, and she is incredible at handling a crowd of family. She makes sure everyone is happy, feeling good, and where they need to be on time.”
Reviews like this mean the world to me because they reflect the experience I strive to create for every couple—not just beautiful photographs, but guidance, preparation, calm leadership, and the confidence to fully enjoy your wedding day.
